Recently in the last three months over or about 175 or more Massachusetts
Licensed and Registered Electrologists in and outside of the
Commonwealth Of Massachusetts including myself opened their mail box and found that pretty
blue piece of paper attached with their license renewal that read. This
notice is Important –Please Read, It said, “The Board Of Electrology
(Board) is writing to inform you that you are being audited to
demonstrate compliance with the Continuing Education Units (CEU'S)
requirements for your license renewal. Additionally
the Massachusetts Board of Registration Electrologists document stated, “That if you did not complete 10 CEU’S your
license and registration as an electrologist could be suspended or
revoked." In addition the Massachusetts Board Of Professional Licensure
has been conducting random surprise audits and if your one of the
electrologists that occasionally go on line to check your license
status and it reads “Selected For Audit” you would have found out a
week or two sooner prior to your written notification. In essence this
means the Massachusetts Board Of Registration of Electrologists states,
“Is verifying that your continuing education has been completed or renewal
application needs Board approval.”Furthermore
the Massachusetts Board of Registration Electrologists stated, “Electrologists shall
complete 10 CEU’S by July 31, 2007 as a prerequisite to certification as
stated 238 CMR: Board Of Registration Electrologists, 401: Certificate
Renewal.Additionally
the Board Stated, "That this is a random audit that you must
complete 10 CEU'S by submitting copies of certificates or other
appropriate information from training courses that you satisfactorily
completed during this time period." Documentation should be sent to
the Board Of Electrology, 239 Causeway Street, Boston MA 02144 by
July31, 2007. " From there they again state, “Failure to submit proof
of completion of CEU requirements by the above date 7/31/07 may result
in the revocation or suspension of your license." For
your information in the last six weeks I received over 24 phone calls
from distressed and worried self-employed electrologists that did not know where to find the correspondence courses, tests and
examinations approved by Massachusetts State Board of Electrologists.
Electrologists that did check the online status prior to being notified
by snail-mail by the Massachusetts State Board of Electrologists had
about 4 to 6 weeks pre-notification that something was afoot other than
that most electrologists up for renewal where caught flat-footed? Those who left their names and email
addresses where contacted and referred to Prestige Electrolysis Supply.
Additionally the Boards request of completing 10 CEU’S by July 31, 2007 did not provide electrologists to much time to locate courses and examinations. Additionally many electrologists who are being randomly audited where quite stunned to say the least that the Massachusetts Board Of Electrologists did not list nor make any recommendations as to where an electrologist could locate, find or take a correspondence CEU’S known as Continuing Educational Units. One other item the only remaining electrology school in Massachusetts The Electrology Institute of New England has booked all it's CEU courses at the rate of $30.00 per hour. This means if you need 10 CEU’S it could be quite expensive to say to attend school in addition you must take time off to travel and commute which means loss time from work and family. To help electrologists out there I have listed the approved correspondence CEU courses sold at Prestige Electrolysis Supply that you can do your exams at home or your office.
Out
of state electrologists especially ones like myself who reside in The
Great State Of Arizona where we do not have legislated electrolysis
laws are left in an educational "Twilight Zone" otherwise known as a
void. On the other hand it is my opinion that electrologists who
involve themselves with volunteered educational electrolysis
publications should have their contributions to the profession taken
into consideration. Nonetheless senior electrologists 55 and older
should have the option of six-months pre-notification or an extension
to take time to evaluate literary and public contributions to the
profession into consideration.Well
no matter what the CEU’S had to be taken care of or else. Well it took
quite a bit of time for me to track down where I could find some
courses however a referral from my good friend Dr. Myron Heimlich owner
Texas Electrolysis Supply referred me to Prestige Electrolysis Supply. Well I called Prestige Electrolysis Supply
and talked to Kim first and Susan second who referred me to Jane Leahy, R.E.
who is the owner of Prestige Electrolysis plus she manages the “Educational Department” herself. My first question asked do you
have correspondence courses that are accepted by the Massachusetts
State Board Of Electrologists for Continuing Education Units also known
as CEU'S? She
replied with the magic words and said, “Yes we do”. Well a few more
questions and I gave her my Visa Card and because of time constraints I
chose overnight delivery. The next day the the exams arrived and after
looking at the first four exams they had 25 questions each that where
multiple-choice questions and one had 35 questions. Over the next few
days with breaks in between patients I completed the exams. After that
all I had to do was make a Fax cover sheet with the serial number for
each examination. Examination serial numbers have to be on the answer
sheet provided you when you send your examinations back to Jane Leahy of
Prestige Electrolysis Supply to be graded. Professionally speaking I
recommend that you consider borrowing or buying the complete
recommended DVD and Video/Cassette and view them before you start. Well
after completing my examinations I faxed them that night and called
them the next day at 12-noon Arizona time to confirm that that where
received. Well I was transferred to Jane Leahy who informed me that I
passed all the exams. She than stated that my "Certificate Of
Completion" for all five examinations where already in the mail. Three
days later it arrived. Let may say this there is nothing better than,
prompt professional first class service and Prestige Electrolysis
Supply service is exemplary in addition to providing a much-needed
valuable service.That Finishing TouchThat
finishing touch is to mail your certification To the Board of
Electrology and your renewal to the Board of Professional Licensure.
However I will say this when sending your Certificate Of Completion and
license renewal make sure and always send both of them “Certified Return
Receipt.” In addition make sure you read the Blue Sheet that came in
the mail and also go online to the read rules and regulations as to how
you should mail and describe the courses you completed with their
serial numbers. Use this link 238 CMR 4.00: Continuing Education to read the Massachusetts Board Of Rules and Regulations. Well
in the end everything turned out just fine and some of the questions on
the examination where a tad-bit of a brainteaser here and there
nonetheless some of the questions where tricky. However I recommend
when taking your examination go with your first answers and than put a
question mark on the ones that are worded funny. Do the exams a second
and third time and more until you feel comfortable with your answers.
In addition for electrologists that only do short-Wave I strongly advise you to do some reading on Blend and Galvanic courses that’s in the DVD'S. Also
they have an exam titled Guidelines ’97-’98 I recommend that your
purchase the $4.00 booklet that comes with the course because it’s an
excellent study guide and aide.One
last item this examination and its costs plus being able to watch
the DVD’S on your office computer so you do not have to do allot of
running around taking or looking for CEU’S aka Continuing Educational Units
are recommended time-savers that are priced right. Please scroll down
